Hachi - A Man's Best Friend

The above picture is of a statue called “Hachi”. It is based on an old Chinese tale about a dog that would come to the train station and wait for his owner to come home from work every day. The story really gets to your heart when you find out the owner suffers a heart attack at work and never comes home one day. Hachi stays in the same spot for multiple years until he finally passes. It is the ultimate tale of man and his best friend.
In addition to the content that this sculpture educes on the viewer, we see that there is no color in this sculpture. This biomorphic sculpture draws emotion from the shoulders of the dog. You can tell, just like the story, that the dog is very firm and adamant about sitting there. Straight edges are not used in this sculpture but we see curving lines to create the 3D image of this statue.
